Without looking for pity, he points out that there are many physical ways in addition to the emotional ways people are affected by loss. Drawing also on the advice of many others, Rich uses quotes from them to offer suggestions as to how to move forward after experiencing a loss. This book will be a help to anyone dealing with loss, and not necessarily due to death, but many other types of loss that we might experience in life. One person found this helpful. This book is extremely helpful for those who have lost a loved one.

Fortunately, this is a short book, since we cannot comprehend very much in the deepest and darkest grief. I loved the part in the book that talks about loneliness.

Reward Yourself

Could loneliness be given to us as a reminder that this world was never intended to be our home? This keeps me going and I pray that others also realize that this loneliness can be good. How still we are when we grieve. I personally preferred much alone time grieving, as I have lost my closest of loved ones,my father and my children. The author shares the scripture verse,"God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need Him.

When you feel so alone and people try to keep pushing you into moving on,they are typically the ones who have never walked in your shoes, this scripture verse puts a smile on my face. This book is a gift and a blessing to share with our bereaved family and friends! Whenever we lose a loved one, there are stages that one must go through.

In "The Road To Recovery", author Rich Nilsen, does a wonderful job describing these stages, as a result of the sudden and tragic death of his wife. I have worked at hospice for several years in spiritual care. Most of the books I have read on this very sensitive and emotional topic, are difficult to hold your attention.

Even though it is less than 30 pages, you will join Mr. Nilsen's journey right from the beginning. At no point in the book do you get the sense that he is feeling sorry for himself. Instead, he shares with you how he rises from despair, to an understanding and acceptance that in the end of your journey, your loved one will never be very far away.

At no point in the book does Mr. Nilsen push his religious beliefs on to you. He never wants you to feel sorry for him. However, if you read the description it tells that the book is for mature audiences.

Don't buy it and then complain about sex when it says it plainly. This is not a 1-star novel in any way at all--it deserves a better rating than that. The second one is a complaint about the character Brook being awful and pushing and pulling away. Uh, it's explained and if you don't like the character then I think you didn't actually read the book. It's well written and I loved the characters. They stayed with me enough that I read a second time just so I'd have more time reading about them.

  6. Brook was a product of how she was raised and what happened to her. I've met people like her. Still don't hate them even if I didn't understand why they were the way they were. This is a 5-star book to me in that I wanted to read it again after I finished reading it. One person found this helpful. Brooke is trying to rebuild her life after a tragic accident that took the life of her ex boyfriend and almost killed her.

Unable to take the hovering from her parents, she gets a new job and moves three hrs away from her family. Then she meets the lead attorney Lucas Mathews at the hospital she's working at as a human resources manager. And things began to change for Brooke. While her body is mostly healed, there are some emotional scars that are in need of repair. Not just from her ex but due to a negligent childhood. And Lucas is just what she needs.

He will show her a love that she never thought possible. While her brother Mac loved and protected her from her parents as a child she has never had a love interest to be as gentle and caring as Lucas Mathews. He will share his family and their open affection for one another with her. Show her new experiences and how to just relax and be free. And he will inundate her with all he has to show her how loves suppose to be. While Lucas knows at first sight he likes what he sees and enjoys spending time with her, he doesn't even try to fight it when that affection becomes love.

Now he just has to get her to trust him and let her guard down enough to let her returning love shine through. After the accident, Brooke is left broken and not just from her physical injuries. Determined to put herself back together she moves from the town she grew up in to work in HR at a hospital in Albany. She does her best to hide her past lingering injuries and quickly befriends Cori, a quirky nurse she met at the gym. This is where the story dragged just a bit for me but soon recovered When she is asked to meet with Lucas from the legal department she finds him handsome and charming.

He relentlessly pursues her but she is reluctant because they work together. After finally giving in to her feelings they start up super steamy romance. Being a type A personality, her walls are high and push the boundaries of their relationship. Lucas wants nothing more to be her everything but the past haunts her and secrets threaten to tear them apart. Will she be able to let him in? Out of the corner of her eye, she took note of his stance and tried not to laugh as the image of a peacock strutting on a treadmill came to mind. See all 99 reviews.
