I also have never read anything by this author before, that said--first thing, the author chose to write this in first person, which is not usual and thus made the story stand out. The main character was writen in such a way that you are instantly drawn to him. I found him to be a believable individual, not the formula hero like in so many stories, but a man like any other man that we could meet in our everday lives. Second, the story line itself does not disappoint; it reaches out and grabs you from the first and keeps you in its thrall until the end.
When I reached the end, I was "wait what happens next", thankfully the author has denoted that this is only part 1.
J.E. Bruce (Author of Snakestone and Sword)
I am going to keep an eager eye out for the next segement. Bruce's background as a forensic archaeologist lets her bring the Early Roman Empire period to life, and the Fae settings are equally well researched and real. Also by This Author.
