It reminded me a little of her novel Marrying The Captain , but while Ms. Kelly used some of the same elements, the plot ended up being different enough that it was a unique story - and up to her usual high standards. And although it was a short story, it felt complete. I recommend the book for the Kelly story, Christmas Eve Proposal. Dec 30, victoria. At second reading of this book - I could not read the second and third story - It was all about the Carla Kelly story - as always. Heartwarming Christmas reading I can't recall reading any of these authors previously. Christmas Eve Proposal is the story of a Royal Navy man on holiday leave and a Lord's illegitimate daughter who works as a waitress.

Good characters, enough conflict, perhaps not the ending you'd expect. He is a second son who finds himself with the family title and is trying to make up for the selfish, high handed way his family, including his younger self, has treated others. He especially wants to apologize to Lily.

The wallflower portion of the title isn't really relevant to the story. Widower Adam spends his time managing his father's estates which he will someday inherit. Nov 19, Shelley rated it really liked it Shelves: I picked this up because I'll read anything by Carla Kelly, but all stories were solid. Carla Kelly wrote about a sailing master during the Napoleonic Wars falling for the woman who rents him her spare room for Christmas, and it was sweet and charming.

I liked Georgie Lee's characters quite a lot - I sympathized with Lily and her fears after being scored by society after Greg's bad decision at a ball years earlier, and liked seeing her move past them.

Ann Lethbridge's story seemed to have some pacing issues - it wrapped up so very fast, but since fixing that would mean cutting some of the bath and hair scene, I can't really complain. I liked both of them a lot, especially how much Cassie loved her stepdaughters, and Adam's fears made sense. Good stuff, all around. Jan 15, Mary Craven rated it it was amazing.

Another lovely Christmas themed anthology. I had never read Carla Kelly before and found her "Dukeless Regencies" a wonderful twist on the period. I really enjoyed her telling of this tale of the magic of finding Christmas love. Georgie Lee was another new author and I will be on the lookout for more books by her.

Lovely story set during the war with France. Gruff sailing master, charming young woman, nasty father hers , charming aunt also hers. Did not disappoint me at all. However, I was less enchanted with the other two stories. The main characters just seemed so young in maturity, if not also in years. And I got rather tired of young Daisy. I had the most troub The rating is for the Carla Kelly story, which is the reason I bought the book. I had the most trouble with the third story--too much insta-lust on his part. Plus he lets his masquerade carry on entirely too long.

Now to re-read the Kelly story Jan 08, Jennifer Rials added it. I've read books by Georgie Lee before and decided this would be great way to read two new authors. I found myself enjoying the 3 stories all for different reasons. Carla Kelly's 'Christmas Eve Proposal' was a slow burn with quiet emotion that just sneaks up on you.

Georgie Lee's 'The Viscount's Christmas Kiss' was full of emotion with great secondary characters to bring in the laughter. And the last story by Ann Lethridge, 'Wallflower, Widow Definite I've read books by Georgie Lee before and decided this would be great way to read two new authors. These 3 stories fell flat especially the one by Georgie Lee The Viscount's Christmas Kiss what an annoying couple so self pitying. Wallflower,Widow,Wife by Ann Lethbridge I didn't finish because it was too unbelievable could not invest anymore time to it.

Christmas Eve Proposal by Carla Kelly to me was a different take on Marrying the Captain a book by her that was superior. Well written, enjoyable romance. The premise of this book is good. Sad lord meets widow with two daughters. He helps her and becomes find of her. When she is threatened, he helps her. It is a good read but due to its short length I found the pace of the book uneven.

The ending was very rushed. Still is was written and enjoyable. Mar 08, Nancy Luebke rated it it was amazing. I enjoyed this set of Historical Christmas stories. I've given it a overall 4. There was a little bit of action, a little bit romance, and a little bit of personal struggle with HEA for each one.
