You know, something that would explain some of it's quirks or how to get the best out of it under varied lighting conditions or even some discussion into the technical aspects of the camera beyond where in the menus you can find the settings for Zebra Stripes.
While Noah Kadner is obviously an expert with the camera and its support systems, he provides very little insight for working professionals. Even the First Person POVs at the end of the chapters are little more than anecdotes about working with the Red camera system. On the other hand, if this is your first time working with advanced video acquisition systems and specifically the Red, then this book is definitely for you. The book does presume you have the most basic of technical proficiency with digital cinematography; mostly to understand its terms, but even that is dealt with by providing a simple glossary in the back.
I feel the strength of this book is to provide a quick "up and running" guide to working with the Red camera and its peripherals. It also competently explains the integration of those support systems to provide a comprehensive review for the choices we face in post-production when you acquire your footage with the Red camera.
Ultimately, if you are a working professional, you'll find more resources and technical information by spending the time it takes to read this book at the Red and Red User websites I found this book quite helpful. Let me communicate that I am a newbie. I think this book was perfect for my purposes. It provides a sense of the capabilities of the Red.
This book also provides an overview of all the various elements that you will need to consider when choosing to use the Red. I particularly appreciated the lenses and the audio sections. This book covers a lot. My only wish would be that it covered even more in depth. However, I appreciate what I have learned from this book.
Excellent product and seller. Though probably well intentioned, this resource on the RED camera is just out of date to bother purchasing. Sorry, but if you're a RED Epic owner, don't bother, it's a complete waste of money. Got a gig post supervising a movie that was shooting on RED and editing on final cut. This book helped me get up to speed.
I love how the author included the history of how RED came about as well as interviews from established industry players. Bought the kindle version. It lives with wherever I take my phone. One person found this helpful.

My most loved book right now!!!! Pekka Varis Catchline Oy Finland. Noah Kadner for this wonderful book. But if you can publish a part 2 of the book for Advanced users of the red one it would be great. See all 15 reviews.

RED: The Ultimate Guide to Using the Revolutionary Camera
Yes outdated but still a good pre-owner read. I read the book back in before I ever imagine laying a hand on a Red One. I found it to be well written and extremely helpful! I even used it to help me build a future proof computer that could handle working with R3D files because I was sold on the Red philosophy: However, I will caution that there is a lot of stuff at first that will possibly go over your head depending on your background. Obviously, the best learning method is getting your hands on a Red.
But I definitley recommend reading this first and getting your 'learners permit' and understanding the workflow, etc. Noah Kadner is the man and his book helped turn me Red!
I have it on my Kindle, is ok for trying to understand the "red one" posts in the reduser forums, other then that I don't think it's useful.
