Each presentation should last between 10 to 15 minutes. Answer all parts of the following question and be sure to include specific references quotes with page numbers to the text. How does Meursault feel when he sees old Salamano beating his dog? How does he feel when Raymond tells him he beat up his girlfriend? Since he treats his dog so harshly, why do you think Old Salamano is so upset when the dog runs away? When Marie asks Meursault if he loves her, he displays an indifferent, almost apathetic attitude towards her.

Why would she continue to have a romantic interest in him? Why would Meursault agree to marry Marie? Considering the atmosphere in the visiting room, why do you think Marie is so cheerful and optimistic when she visits Meursault? Why would the prosecutor ask Marie questions about her relationship with Meursault? Does the prosecutor really consider this an important aspect of the case? Why does Meursault talk Raymond out of shooting the Arab? When Meursault shoots the Arab he tells us: Why is the magistrate so upset when he talks to Meursault about God?

Meursault has difficulty trying to explain why he killed the Arab. What do you think his motivation could have been? Do you think justice is served by the verdict?

Teaching The Stranger

Is Meursault truly judged by a jury of his peers? Why would Meursault want to have a huge, angry crowd attend his execution? Remeber, our trial day schedule will be quite tight. Please try to stick to the time limits suggested below: Trial transcripts are part of the Court Record, thus, any witness interviews must be typed and submitted before the onset of the trial by Thursday. Always keep a copy for yourself. Transcripts of interviews may be used in lieu of actual court testimony if time is limited on trial day.

The jury will be responsible for reading the transcripts before making their final judgment. Witnesses must have specific knowledge of what happened along with specific textual evidence with relevant dialogue and details. Witnesses tell the jury what they think and feel based on their understanding of their character and are not to present gossip.

The prosecution team will work cooperatively to prepare an address to the jury, formulate and present their arguments, and question witnesses. The prosecution team must develop an argument and supporting evidence which will convince the jury, demonstrate the strength of the argument through clear articulation, tone, and gestures, and speak in a way that the jury understands the importance of each point, the effects the crimes had on others, and the reasons that the defendant deserves punishment.

The head prosecutor will make the opening and closing addresses to the jury. The prosecution clerk will ensure that everyone participates in meetings before and during the trial, keep the entire prosecution team within the time limits for their presentation, and help the group prioritize arguments. The junior prosecutor will question the witnesses during the trial.

The defense team will work cooperatively to prepare an address to the jury, formulate and present their arguments, and question witnesses. The defense team must develop an argument and supporting evidence which will convince the jury, demonstrate the strength of the argument through clear articulation, tone, and gestures, and speak in a way that the jury understands the importance of each point, the extenuating circumstances surrounding the crime, and the reasons that the defendant deserves to be set free. The head defense attorney will make the opening and closing addresses to the jury.

How to Create a Lesson Plan

The defense clerk will ensure that everyone participates in meetings and during the trial, keep the entire defense team within the time limits for their presentation, and help the group prioritize arguments. The junior defense attorney will question the witnesses during the trial. The judges will decide which disputed facts evidence may be presented to the jury. The judges will meet with the lawyers before the trial in order to review trial arguments and evidence.

The lead magistrate will run the courtroom throughout the trial, calling witnesses and addresses the lawyers as needed dealing with objections, etc. The junior judge will give the jury their instructions before sending them off to deliberate. Both judges will deliberate with the special guest judge before issuing the verdict and sentence. The press will prepare news stories preceding the trial. The news stories will be published into a newspaper and dispersed for the trial. The character and object descriptions are also used in some of the quizzes and tests in this lesson plan.

The longest descriptions run about words. They become shorter as the importance of the character or object declines. This section of the lesson plan contains 30 Daily Lessons.

The Stranger Lesson Plans for Teachers

Daily Lessons each have a specific objective and offer at least three often more ways to teach that objective.
