Purchasable with gift card. Quail and Dumplings The main course section is quite small by comparison, although it includes two items meant to be shared by 2, a whole fish and a big steak.
For whatever reason, none of the choices sparked our interest. The Coffee Pots de Creme was another highlight. We don't usually order dessert, but this one was so good surprisingly complex that I feel that I should try all of the desserts. Attentive, gracious, and quite funny. Ask for him by name assuming I've remembered it correctly. We're looking forward to coming back soon. Eh- not for me.
Weird menu, left hungry. The Cubano sandwich was pretty good. We split a bunch of items. Baeur's review didn't do this place justice. One of the best meals available in Napa! Could improve on the wines by the glass selection. We loved everything we tried from the twisted mimosa to the queso unusual but tasty to the amazing roasted corn omelette and breakfast tacos. Amazingly fresh, just the right amount of spice, and very crave worthy!
Excellent food, great service. We Had a great steak and salmon. Appetizer Squad was amazing too. We had reserved the table and noted that two out of the four of us were celebrating birthdays. It was confirmed by the hostess who called us the preceding day. Upon arrival, we were seated outside which we requested , and waited longer than usual for the server to appear. When he did, he was brief, but polite. We ordered drinks, and all were served in a timely fashion expect for my husband who ordered a diet coke.
He had to ask where it was when it did not come. The food was so-so The fish was very dry and not tasty. The dessert menu was passed to us and we ordered one to share. NO mention of any birthday celebration at any time. We paid the bill and left. Quiet night but each dish and course was excellently prepared and presented. Excellent local spot, with genuine food and nice ambiance. Loved the 'bites' of smashed potatoes and deep-fried okra please keep it on the menu! Wait staff and kitchen accommodated small adjustments to a couple of dishes, without question or judgmental attitude.
Service was very attentive and kitchen was spot on with their timing and presentations. Quail entree came with two quail, twice what most other restaurants provide - kudos!! Will definitely be one of our local go-to dining spots. Space, service, and drinks were outstanding. Food was lackluster and over priced. Went with a friend who had already been. She did not like the food the first time. Skip Basalt for dinner and stop and have a drink and enjoy the beautiful room and great service. It is worth the visit. For new restaurant they did everything to make it a great experience.
Maybe a little too hard. Waiter was a little anxious to serve and was around quite a bit. The appetizers, snap peas and squid were excellent, but the main courses, particularly the sea bass were lacking dry and overcooked. The service staff is young and undertrained, but the service recovery by management was admirable. I would give this restaurant another chance once the kinks got worked out. We had petron peppers with oysters for first course The salmon had a crispy smoked skin which was again perfectly cooked.
I will go back. Not a great menu IMO. Will try one more time. Great ambiance, wonderful service, outdoor seating available, and the desserts should not be skipped. Overall service was excellent, out door seating on a beautiful night was great. Food was good, can't call it great, but definitely some potential for greatness.
Space is a vast improvement over Fish Story. The food is exceptional. We tried the duck flautas, pumpkin spread, pork loin, ribeye steak and organic chicken. Can't say enough about Basalt! We've dined 3 times at Basalt and gone to 2 Happy Hours. Every time has been a delight and enjoyable experience. So glad to see it thriving!
We enjoy their Happy Hour choices only offered in the bar Although I wouldn't say the wine list is 'notable' for high-end, hard to find wines, they offer uncommon wines from around the world, that have been well chosen to suit their menu. We keep going back and keep taking friends there - I'm even finding my favorite table quite comfortable on Wednesday Happy Hours Food was great, different and fun.

Wonderful meal and delicious. Can't wait to go back!! The drinks from the bar were excellent: Everything was delicious, we started with the burrata and the crab salad. I liked the fried cheese stuffed squash in the buratta I feel like that was the star of the dish. I loved the crab salad, perfect flavor and presentation. We shared the half chicken, skin was delicious both white and dark meat were juicy, and certainly loved the roasted brentwood corn in whatever green spicy puree was spooned on the dish.
Our server brought me out a piece of Ocra to show me what it looked like and said I could keep it. He definitely made our experience rememorable. Somewhat busy night but they say us in a big empty room My wife and I were looking forward to checking on this restaurant. We remember when this was the Fish Story and wondered what they could have done that was better.
Well, in my opinion not much. It was Father's Day and we were about the only ones having diner. Since it was a warm night we sat inside where there is not much of a view of the river. The service and food was good but not great except for the deserts. In my opinion since we live in Napa, there are better places to go in Napa for the same money. An attractive new restaurant in Napa with a distinct Mexican influence on chicken salads and more.
Only 3 entree's left for a 7: Tamale was dry, pork undercooked, and fried clams were soaked in oil. Really enjoyed my first visit to Basalt and was excited to see a new restaurant open after Fish Story closed. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and we were seated near the outdoor seating area. Great atmosphere; attentive team. The presentations were great and the food was tasty. Tried the beet and dungeness crab salads. Both were very good.
Also tried the masa dumplings, which neither of us liked.
Basalt, Napa. Restaurant Info, Reviews, Photos - KAYAK
For my entree, I had the Sonoma duck breast which was delicious. It was nice to have morels, peas and mint accompany the duck without over-powering it. Great restaurant in Napa.
Fantastic outdoor area for alfresco dining. Service was prompt and helpful. Each one was excellent. Waiter seemed off his game at best, gruff and inattentive at worst. Basalt needs to fix some issues if it's going to make it in Napa. Dana was a great server. Very informative about the menu and spirits. Had read mixed reviews. Found the menu very interesting. We decided to focus on the small plate options. Started with the Pumpkin Seed flatbread and the Swiss Chard pancakes.
Both were a hit and packed with flavor. We then moved into the Duck Confit flauta. Finished with the Tamal and Crab salad. The Tamal was again a big hit and was a perfect pairing for a Cayuse. The crab was good Would recommend this new restaurant for someone looking for an adventure in flavors. Portions and price were in my local Napa opinion Open now for several weeks.
They put in a lot of thought into their menu and staff. Everything about our meal was outstanding. At our server, Rachel, was beyond exceptional! The food was very good but the portions are to small for the price. We started with cocktails at the bar and we're both pleased and amused by the originality. We were promptly seated for dinner and had good service.
The courses were served with appropriate spacing. I started with the clams and chorizo with noodles in a light broth. I'd double the order and choose it as a main course! For my entree, I had the duck breasts and they were quite nice. My husband chose the pork shoulder which he enjoyed. In all, the three of us shared a number of other appetizers including the pumpkin seed spread and flatbread, grilled prawns, masa dumplings.
We liked that the menu was somewhat minimalistic. It provides something for every mood or desired flavor without overwhelming you with too many options. Great interior style though I didn't find the table chairs too comfortable. Very professional service, fantastic food. Unexpected offerings; thankfully no kale salad, no burger, no osso buco etc.
We tried Basalt even though it had recently opened - it was excellent! We decided to share the small plates and tried a variety of things. They were all delicious. We tried the Garbanzo Bean Bites, Pumpkin Seed spread with flat bread, beet salad, farm lettuce salad, chorizo and clams, and the grilled gulf prawns. We were so pleased. Service was excellent - views of Napa River are beautiful.
We will be back! I have never written a review. I was so disappointed with our meal at Basalt that I felt that it was necessary. The wine list was average. Every dish ordered was disappointing with several just bad. We didn't finish our food, and went back to our hotel to eat.
Our server was very nice, but the food was just awful. I could go on, but I'm hoping they will get better. Staff are very friendly and attentive. We've been twice, once for appetizers and cocktails and once again for our anniversary dinner. Sitting at the bar noshing on appetizers was great.
We had the fried oysters, the Adobo chicken wings, beets and chicharones. Tried their signature cocktail, Forager's Old Fashioned and it was quite tasty. I had the half chicken and it was very tasty, moist and plenty of it. My lady had the Black Cod and although she said it was tasty, she also said it was a bit greasy. Maybe due to the fact that they were not that busy. The menu seems a bit underwhelming. I would love to see them expand the menu and offer more choices. They have only been open for three months and I'm hoping that they will improve. At this point, I don't see them surviving the onslaught of good eating establishments within walking distance.
It's a new restaurant and everything is getting figured out. The menu was very limited, which I typically enjoy, but I found it hard to find something that sounded very good. At that point I think it will be a better barometer of overall quality. Food was just o. They ran out of an appetizer. They brought the appetizer after our first course. Mixed up our drink order and overcharged on the bill.
Basalt is in essence another tapas-style restaurant that has become increasingly common in downtown Napa. The food is well prepared, but nothing jumps out as special. The prices assume that quality, rather than quantity, matter, hence the lower rating for value. Portions are understandably small, but there are better selections less than a block away. Not a place to go if you are hungry, but to kill an hour over drinks with a friend it's fine.
It's a big bar, not really a restaurant, and their are other bars near by with better value on their food menus. I don't feel compelled to return. This is a great new addition to the Napa restaurant scene. Great food and service. It will be a new place to meet friends, have a drink and a bite to eat.
